Associated Press Comments Rome Township A Lenawee County man accused of growing 8,000 marijuana plants is asking a judge to spare him from prison, saying the pot was not substantial. Edwin Schmieding is returning to Detroit federal court Tuesday, more than three months after pleading guilty. He says he was trying to move away from growing cut flowers and had grown marijuana only for a year at his Rome Township farm. Schmieding says the quality of the marijuana was low and the quantity added up to 180 kilograms or about 400 pounds. Prosecutors recently dropped charges against his wife, Linda. She told investigators in 2011 that they were growing marijuana to sell for medicinal purposes....
