Authorities: Woman dead after Genesee County fire

Associated Press Comments Grand Blanc Township — Authorities say a woman is dead following a fire at a Flint-area home. The Flint Journal reports crews were called around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday to the home in Genesee County’s Grand Blanc Township. Fire Chief Jim Harmes says police and firefighters tried to rescue the woman but were unable to enter the home because of heavy smoke. The woman’s name wasn’t immediately released. Harmes says the fire started in the kitchen and there weren’t working smoke detectors in the home.
