EMU instructor plans 450-mile bike ride

Associated Press Comments Ypsilanti — An Eastern Michigan University instructor plans to ride a bicycle 450 miles across the state to raise money to help students at the Ypsilanti school. John Fike’s trek will begin on Saturday. He wants to raise $4,000 to help fund study abroad programs at Eastern or to help students start their fundraising careers through the EMU Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Program. The 70-year-old part-time lecturer in Eastern’s political science department started an intense regimen of cycling about 10 years ago to combat the onset of Type 2 diabetes.
