Crews to look for sea lamprey larvae in Alpena Co.

Associated Press Comments Alpena Township — U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service crews will be coming to Alpena County next week to look for sea lamprey larvae. Ludington Biological Station Supervisor Jeff Slade says the crews will use a chemical to drive the larvae to the surface of Long Lake Creek, where they can be collected, measured and counted. Slade tells The Alpena News the idea is to know when and where to treat to rid waterways of the invasive, parasitic creatures. Crews will be working over the course of five days starting Monday and return later in the month to treat the creek.
